Formerly on faculty at Contra Costa College (San Pablo, CA) and Diablo Valley College (Pleasant Hill, CA) as an adjunct professor of jazz piano/popular piano, beginning piano and collaborative pianist for jazz solo voice and vocal jazz ensembles; Steve was also a music educator/band director at the Hacienda School’s Heads Up! Program – to where he was a band director for grades 3-8.
Steve in an alumni and former graduate Faculty Member of the prestigious FSU College of Music with both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in jazz piano performance.
As a faculty member at Florida State University, Mr. Scholz taught jazz and popular piano classes, jazz small group ensembles, private lessons, jazz arranging, and assisted with jazz history classes. It is he was awarded as the official assistant to acclaimed pianist/composer Marcus Roberts.
Notable students to which he has taught jazz piano, include Grammy-nominated drummer/vocalist and 2012 Monk Competition winner Jamison Ross and Trombonist/Composer/Arranger for Dee Dee Bridgewater, Ms. Emily Fredrickson.
Comfortable with small and large groups alike, Steve believes in spreading the joy of music education and the importance of the jazz legacy and culture. From elementary school children to the college classroom, to adult living centers; the enjoyment and education of music creation and the jazz legacy and culture should have no bounds.
Available for guest lectures at schools, workshops and select social gatherings on a varying of topics and specialized fields of instruction – contact with a topic or idea in mind to set up the perfect guest lecture or workshop.
Steve also encourages a very select studio of private students dedicated to opening their minds, exploring their creativity and expanding their discipline and focus – ultimately re-connecting with the essence of their love for music. Allowing music to once again (or for the very first time) be – natural and fun.
